Apprentice Toolmakers

The Craft of Toolmaking

A toolmaker is a skilled worker who produces and maintains precision tools used in the production of metal, plastic and other materials of all shapes and sizes. The work of a toolmaker involves interpreting drawings and technical data to machine and assemble with great accuracy jigs, fixtures, moulding tools, dies and punches.

Care and attention to detail and high precision are the hallmark of Toolmaking. They operate a range of specialist engineering machines such as lathes, milling machines, Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines, grinding, milling and boring machines. Drilling and spark erosion equipment are the key skills as are the use of precision, marking out and measuring tools.

Toolmakers require many skills including:

  • Working with a variety of specialised hand and power tools
  • Operating a range of specialist engineering machines
  • Interpreting and analysing technical drawings and specifications
  • Measuring, marking out, cutting and machining mild steel, stainless steel, alloy steels and aluminium plate and pipe

Personal Qualities and Skills

An awareness of health and safety and good housekeeping is essential as well as attention to detail. Producing high levels of accuracy demands patience and concentration. You need to be able to read, understand and analyse engineering drawings. Good numeric skills are important to make precise measurements and calculations.

Mechanical Design Engineer

TEG has a requirement for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our existing busy design team, based out of our Global Headquarters in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing mechanical design engineering & problem-solving expertise
  • Project manage multiple projects simultaneously,
  • Complete reverse engineering of various components from measurement to production.
  • Technical support for production, sales and marketing.
  • Taking ownership for the cross-functional activities required to resolve complex issues, always with the aim of continuous process improvement.

 

Requirements:

Essential

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering Qualification
  • Recent relevant industrial experience – Ideally 5+ years
  • Experience with 3D CAD (NX Preferably) and 2D CAD.
  • Excellent Communication Skills, Verbal, Computer and Presentational.
  • A strong background in problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team involving production, sales & marketing.

Senior Toolmaker

A vacancy exists for a Senior Toolmaker who will join the existing Team located in Mullingar. Applicant should be dedicated, motivated, a self-starter, willing to take on a new challenge. The position is full time and two cycle shift work.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Precision machining a wide range of component parts, tools and fixtures, using a wide range of materials and equipment/machine tools
  • Program and operate CNC and manual machine tools, small hand tools, power tools & test/inspection equipment whilst ensuring health & safety provisions are strictly adhered to
  • Comply with all new product documentation and process control procedures including CNC program control and fixture documentation
  • Ensure components and finished products consistently meet design specifications and highest engineering and quality standards

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge and experience of using CNC

TEG has a requirement for a Stainless Steel Fabricator, based out of our Global Headquarters in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Fabricate components in line with specification on TEG drawings
  • Review drawings, design and support improvements as appropriate
  • Liaise with customers, vendors, Machinists & Designers on technical issues.
  • Work in a safe manner and make sure all safety rules are strictly adhered to.
  • Identify to your manager any risk or road blocks and help develop Strategies to mitigate these.
  • Excellent communication to customers with upfront schedules and regular updates.
    • Ensure compliance with Regulatory Standards, promoting quality awareness and making appropriate decisions on a daily basis.
    • Participation in audits – regulatory body and customer audits.

Requirements

The preferred candidate will have the following:

  • A minimum of 3 or more year’s TIG welding and stainless steel polishing experience
  • Experience of working within a Precision Engineering or Pharmaceutical/Aerospace Manufacturing environment is desired.

  • Must be computer literate e.g. Microsoft excel, word, statistical packages
  • Must have demonstrable Problem solving / decision making ability

TEG has a requirement for a Stainless Steel Polisher, based out of our Global Headquarters in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

  • Polish stainless steel components in line with specification on TEG drawings & ASME BPE requirements
  • Review drawings, design and support improvements as appropriate.
  • Liaise with customers, vendors, Machinists & Designers on technical issues.

R and D Technician

TEG has a requirement for an R and D Technician, based out of our Global Headquarters in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lead Engineer
  • Assembly and testing of TEG feeding systems.
  • Assembly and testing of TEG sterile washing systems.
  • Record and maintain all information of all testing completed in TEG.
  • Ensure technical issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with customers, vendors, machinists & designers on technical and issues.
  • Responsibility of preparation of technical submissions completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Health & Safety regulations are strictly adhered to

Requirements:

  • Relevant Engineering Course

Quality Technician

TEG has a requirement for a Quality Technician to join our busy Quality Department, based out of our Global Headquarters in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

Roles & Responsibilities

    • Perform an active role in quality control of products, ensuring quality assurance has been carried out on all despatched product in accordance with our quality system.
    • Auditing of in-process checks.
    • Operation of PC based measurement systems.
    • Provide reports/information to management on quality related issues and implement solutions to quality related issues.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams as directed by the Quality Manager.
    • Developing and ensuring that quality goals and measures are adhered to at all times.
    • Ensure compliance with Regulatory Standards, promoting quality awareness and making appropriate decisions on a daily basis.
    • Assist in maintaining the quality management system by conducting internal audits to ISO, EASA requirements.

Requirements

The preferred candidate will have the following skills.

    • Certificate/Diploma in an Engineering discipline from third level institution and/or relevant industrial experience.
    • Experience of working within a Precision Engineering or Pharmaceutical/Aerospace Manufacturing environment is desired.
    • Experience of Metrology, i.e. the use of measuring equipment desired.
