Smart Eureka Measurement Aided Assembly of Large-scale Structures (MAAS)
TEG are delighted to be a part of the MAAS Consortium. MAAS is a 2–year project funded by Smart Eureka and supported by Enterprise Ireland (EI) and the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI).
The Consortium consists of Airbus, TEG, IMR and Robotnik. TEG for its EASA approved aviation design and production skills and its use of 3D scanning technologies. IMR for its robotics expertise. Airbus provides first-class expertise in aircraft manufacturing and assembly. Robotnik has extensive experience in the development of robots for performing autonomous tasks
The major goal of the MAAS project is to develop an efficient automated solution for the manufacturing of aircraft sub-assemblies.
The project aims to evaluate the use of collaborative robots and related automated activities within manufacturing, assembly and inspection operations. A mobile robotics solution will be designed, developed and integrated into a prototype assembly line.
The final goal is to demonstrate a production cell which will integrate
- Efficient manufacturing processes intended for parts assembly.
- Visual inspection of individual parts.
- Robot-assisted assembly and quality assurance of the final sub-assembly by 3D scanning techniques.
SMART is a flexible, industry-driven EUREKA Cluster program in Advanced Manufacturing. It’s aim is to promote collaborative, international & close-to-market R&D&I projects. As a EUREKA Cluster, SMART is grounded in Europe and open to worldwide participants from the Eureka Network.

AIRBUS is a global aircraft manufacturer, with a global workforce of around 133.000 employees. More than 10,800 AIRBUS aircraft are currently in operation while 7,390 orders have been logged as of the end of February 2019. Enhancement of the AIRBUS industrial system through disruptive technology adoption in legacy assembly lines will leverage delivery-time reduction (and therefore more adequate time to market) while achieving high production rates of 100 aircraft/month for the next Airbus single-air program. Robotnik started its activity in 2002 and is currently a leading company in the European service robotics market, with a team formed by 50 people. Robotnik is specialized in robotics product manufacturing (mobile robot platforms and mobile manipulators) and service robotics applications (development of robots for performing autonomous tasks for the wellbeing of humans or machines, excluding manufacturing), principally robots for logistics and robots for inspection. https://www.robotnik.eu/
